ESPANYOL - ALMERIA
RCD Espanyol hosted Almeria which is sitting in the "relegation zone" of the Liga classification table. The final result a 1 - 2 victory to Almeria which keeps them with slim chances in avoiding the relegation. Espanyol continue with a string of losses which is surprising.
Espanyol got ahead first through Stuani with his 42nd min goal. But he was sent off in the 47th min which left his team with 10 men. Almeria used this to take advantage scoring the equalizer through Fran Velez in the 70th min and the winner in the 72nd min thanks to Suso with a great free-kick.
VALENCIA - ATLETICO DE MADRID
Valencia CF Liga leaders Atletico de Madrid. The visitors knew beforehand that a win today against Valencia was a must if they were to keep aspiring towards the title. Although the game was difficult with a good and determined Valencia CF in front of them, Atletico de Madrid managed a vital 0 - 1 win.
The winner came in the 42nd min when Raul Garcia headed home.
ATHLETIC BILBAO - SEVILLA
Athletic Club Bilbao halted the progression of Sevilla FC winning 3 - 1 and ensure their Champions League table position. Sevilla FC may have felt their efforts in Europa League and could have been effected by tiredness, but Bilbao was superior the full match. The goals for Bilbao came from Susaeta in the 4th min, Muniain in the 53rd min and Ander Herrera in the 73rd min. Sevilla managed their goal in the 79th min through Gamiero.
VILLARREAL - BARÇA
FC Barcelona travelled to Villarreal with the memory of the passing away of their ex-Coach Vilanova heavy on their minds and spirits. Villarreal needed a win to keep up with the top of the ladder teams to secure a European place for next season.
Villarreal played very well, so much so that they were 2 - 0 up by the 65th min with goals from Cani in the 45th min and Figueras in the 55th min. But a determined FC Barcelona and perhaps some good luck saw how they managed to turn things around to equalize 2-2. Both goals were own goals from Villarreal players; Gabriel in the 65th min and Musachio in the 78th min.
Barça continued with their improved play to see Lionel Messi score the third and the winner in the 82nd min. FC Barcelona then held on for the victory with a final 2 - 3 result.
ELCHE - LEVANTE
Elche hosted Levante in the Friday Night game and finished with a 1 - 1 draw. A result which favoured Levante as Elche is dangerously close to the danger-zone relegation area of the table. Elche went ahead in the 62nd min through Boakye but Levante equalized in the 73rd min through Angel.
GRANADA - RAYO
Granada played Madrid Club Rayo Vallecano and lost 0 - 3. Granada which is also in a dangerous position close to the relegation zone auto-destructed themselves when Brahimi got himself a red card in the 48th min leaving his team down to 10 men.
However, with a man extra Rayo Vallecano took over and the goals followed in the following manner, first with Saul in the 53rd min, Larrivey in the 58th min and Sebas Fernandez in the 85th min. Rayo basically has its place assured for next season in Liga.
GETAFE - MALAGA
Getafe had a do or die match against Malaga FC. The final result 1 - 0 to Madrid Club Getafe.
The first goal for Getafe came early in the 7th min from Colunga. After this a very competitive game with red cards to Getafe player Ciprian and red card to Malaga player Angeleri.
An important win to Getafe today but they are still far from securing their Liga future. They are still very much in danger.
REAL MADRID BETIS
Real Madrid - Osasuna and won 4 - 0 in a comfortable match keeping their own Liga title aspirations open while they wait for Atletico de Madrid to possibly slip.
He did so with 2 goals - from Cristiano Ronaldo . The first goal was a long range driver ( possibly off-side ) in the 6th min and the second another long-range driver in the 51st min. The Portuguese forward was then substituted and the third Real Madrid goal arrived when Di Maria placed a cross onto the head of Sergio Ramos in the 59th min. The fourth came from substitute Carvajal who headed over the Osasuna goalie in the 83rd min from a smart Isco pass.
BETIS - REAL SOCIEDAD
Real Betis went into their game against Real Sociedad knowing beforehand that earlier victory by Madrid Club Getafe had sent them to the 2º Division next season. Real Sociedad is behind Sevilla FC and needed to win to keep the pressure on for Europe next season.
As one would imagine Real Betis was psychologically affected by their situation and attempted to put in a brave game with their local fans hostile with disappointment. Their efforts went draining out as the match progressed while Real Sociedad took control.
The goal and the eventual winner came from Mexican Carlos Vela from the penalty spot in the 48th min. Later Griezmann hit the post in the 54th min for Real Sociedad. Final result 0 - 1 to Real Sociedad.

MALAGA - VILLARREAL
The final result was a 2 - 0 victory to Malaga FC which currently puts the Club further away from the dangerous relegation zone of the ladder with their tonight earned 10th place classification. Villarreal drops to 7th place just 2 points behind Real Sociedad which clings to the Euro 6th position.
The star of the match was Malaga FC winger Amrabat who drove crazy Villarreal with his pace and dangerous incursions. With his help came the two goals for Malaga tonight, the first from Santa Cruz in the 6th min and the second from Darder in the 53rd min.
CELTA - ALMERIA
Almeria hosted Celta de Vigo and further complicated their Liga future losing 2 - 4 to Celta de Vigo. For Celta it was a mini-celebration as they secure their future mathematically in Liga for next season. The four goals for Celta came in the following order: Nolito 18th min, Charles in the 51st min, Nolito 70th min and Orellana in the 75th min. For Almeria their two goals came from Rodri in the 39th min and Oscar Diaz in the 87th min.
RAYO - BETIS
Madrid Club Rayo Vallecano has turned the last end of the season into real success notching up victories and points to get away from dangerous relegation zone. Another three points today with a 3 - 1 victory over Real Betis. The latter is almost mathematically destined to the 2º Division depending on their result next week.
The goalscorers for Rayo Vallecano: Rochina 14th min, Paulao (own goal) 27th min & Larrivey 51st min. For Real Betis the consolation goal (just to say something) came from Chica in the 79th min.
SEVILLA - GRANADA
Sevilla FC continue with victories and jump into European positions after defeating Granada 4-0. The goals came from Mainz (own goal) 14th min, Gameiro 51st min, Mbia 58th min & Vitolo 68th min
BARÇA - ATHLETIC
Tremendous game between FC Barcelona and Athletic Club Bilbao that had everything with end to end plays the full 90 mins.
Bilbao opened the can first in the 49th min through Aduriz and had Barça on the ropes. However, Barça continued attacking and creating goal opportunities and the statistics had to give a goal which finally arrived thanks to Pedro in the 71st min. The second goal for Barça came in the 74th min from a Lionel Messi free-kick.
From here the intensity maintained itself with both sides looking for more goals. Bilbao had chances to equalize and Barça had chances to scored a couple more. In the end the final result 2 - 1 to FC Barcelona.
VALENCIA - OSASUNA
Osasuna played Valencia with the final result begin a 1 - 1 draw. A result that does not benefit either as Osasuna which remains in relegation danger & Valencia which is further away from the European table positions.
The first goal was scored by Osasuna through Oriel Riera in the 19th min after he scooped up a "fumble" by the Valencia CF goalkeeper Guaita. Osasuna had more chnaces, post included, but failed to convert. Valencia CF managed the equalizer in the 82nd min through Jonas.
Valencia was very unhappy post match as the referee did not call a very clear hand-ball in the penalty area by a Osasuna defender. Once again, another referee decision to give us debate theses days.
LEVANTE - GETAFE
Levante drew 0 - 0 with Madrid Club Getafe in a match were both tried but never came close. It was a somewhat boring and perhaps frustrating game for both players and spectators. The worst off today with this result was Getafe which is in relegation danger.
REAL SOCIEDAD - ESPANYOL
Real Sociedad hosted RCD Espanyol to win in the last moment 2 - 1 and virtually assure their presence in Europe next year. Although Espanyol lost tonight their 4th straight game they are safe from relegation dangers and have their presence assured in Liga next season.
The first goal came from Espanyol in the 23rd min by Jhon Cordoba. Real Sociedad responded relatively quickly with an equalizer from Canales that will be given as an own goal to Espanyol player Lanzarote in the 32nd min as an own goal. The winner finally came for Real Sociedad after battling to keep out the visitors with a 91st min goal from Carlos Vela.
ATLETICO DE MADRID - ELCHE
The final result a 2 - 0 victory to Atletico de Madrid over Elche. A very worked and difficult match for Atletico which was taken to their limits in order to get the three points. Elche was organized, determined and created numerous goal opportunities in the first half. They nearly scored but once again as custom the Atletico de Madrid goalkeeper Courtois made two-three incredible saves in a row that saved his team.

The Liga leaders Atletico de Madrid won 0 - 2 Getafe in a rough & tumble match that included a red card to Getafe player Lafita. Other moments was the 65th min penalty miss by Diego Costa and later the "horrific" injury to the same player after smashing himself - leg first - into the goal post as he scored his teams second goal. Preliminary reports indicate a several cut to his leg , while other suggest a possible fracture, in any case it looked more terrible than what the post-reports indicate.
The first Atletico de Madrid goal came in the 40th min when Godin headed home, the second came from Diego Costa in the 84th min which included the already injury.
The Getafe loss keeps them in the relegation zone of the Liga ladder and with a "black future" for the 5 remaining Liga matches. For Getafe every game from now on are do or die. Atletico de Madrid consolidates its top of the ladder position.

The final result was a very worked and "suffered" 1 - 0 victory over Villarreal that was controversial as the visitors claimed that the Raul Garcia 14th min goal ( and winner ) was a foul. On the video it seems that perhaps Villarreal had motives to complain.
Atletico then worked even harder to keep out Villarreal for the rest of the match & secure the 3 points that keeps them Liga leaders for another week.

FC Barcelona keeps the pressure on leaders Atletico de Madrid with their 3 - 1 win over Real Betis. The loss by Betis virtually puts the Club headed for the Spanish 2º Division next season as they are anchored in the last place.
Barça won but played below their habitual standards and towards the end looked very tired. Real Betis could have gotten more out of this match have they not made defensive mistakes & taken their goal chances.
FC Barcelona reached their objective, get the three points with whatever means available, in this case with 2 penalties and an own goal. The two penalties were converted by Lionel Messi (15th and 86th min) who takes his Liga goal count to 25 goals, and Real Betis player Jordi gave Barça an own goal. The only goal scored by Real Betis was Ruben Castro in the 68th min.
REAL MADRID - REAL SOCIEDAD
Real Madrid travelled to Real Sociedad with a must win situation surrounding their visit. A loss here would have virtually seen how the Liga title would have become unreachable. The final result was a 4 - 0 with three important points that keeps the Club in the Liga title running. Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was rested & Marcelo was out due to injury. The team worked hard and was solid putting in one of their better games in recent weeks.
Real Sociedad came out strongly & had their chances in the 1st half claiming penalties that were not called ( supposed hand-ball by Ramos and from Illaramendi) . However, Real Madrid managed a psychological goal in the 44th min when Illaramendi knocked in a Benzema shoot that bounced off Real Sociedad goalie Bravo.
The second half was dominated by Real Madrid with goals from Gareth Bale in the 65th min, Pepe in the 84th min and Morata in the 88th min. Real Madrid also hit the bar twice, first from a Ramos header & the second after a Benzema shot a goal. In fact the Frenchman put in a great match.

Madrid Club Rayo Vallecano "steamed-rolled" Celta de Vigo to win 3 - 0. Rayo keeps up its winning momentum earning them the points to jump out of the dangerous relegation zone of the ladder, and allows them to work towards staying in Liga next season.

FC Barcelona keeps the pressure on leaders Atletico de Madrid with their 3 - 1 win over Real Betis. The loss by Betis virtually puts the Club headed for the Spanish 2º Division next season as they are anchored in the last place.
Barça won but played below their habitual standards and towards the end looked very tired. Real Betis could have gotten more out of this match have they not made defensive mistakes & taken their goal chances.
FC Barcelona reached their objective, get the three points with whatever means available, in this case with 2 penalties and an own goal. The two penalties were converted by Lionel Messi (15th and 86th min) who takes his Liga goal count to 25 goals, and Real Betis player Jordi gave Barça an own goal. The only goal scored by Real Betis was Ruben Castro in the 68th min.
REAL MADRID - REAL SOCIEDAD
Real Madrid travelled to Real Sociedad with a must win situation surrounding their visit. A loss here would have virtually seen how the Liga title would have become unreachable. The final result was a 4 - 0 with three important points that keeps the Club in the Liga title running. Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo was rested & Marcelo was out due to injury. The team worked hard and was solid putting in one of their better games in recent weeks.
Real Sociedad came out strongly & had their chances in the 1st half claiming penalties that were not called ( supposed hand-ball by Ramos and from Illaramendi) . However, Real Madrid managed a psychological goal in the 44th min when Illaramendi knocked in a Benzema shoot that bounced off Real Sociedad goalie Bravo.
The second half was dominated by Real Madrid with goals from Gareth Bale in the 65th min, Pepe in the 84th min and Morata in the 88th min. Real Madrid also hit the bar twice, first from a Ramos header & the second after a Benzema shot a goal. In fact the Frenchman put in a great match.
RAYO - CELTA
Madrid Club Rayo Vallecano "steamed-rolled" Celta de Vigo to win 3 - 0. Rayo keeps up its winning momentum earning them the points to jump out of the dangerous relegation zone of the ladder, and allows them to work towards staying in Liga next season.
